Clyde Pumps Service & Spares have secured the contract to upgrade brine-recirculating pumps at the Qatar Electricity & Water Corporations' Ras Abu Fontas desalination plant.

Four sets of replacement pump parts are being supplied to upgrade material from Ni Resist, which suffered stress corrosion cracking, to Duplex stainless steel.

The original pumps were supplied with a complex one piece casing casting. Using 3D modelling techniques our engineering team developed the optimum solution maximising casting integrity and considering the casting requirements of the upgraded material.

The solution was to supply a redesigned 3-piece casing for the trouser leg style pump casings which measure approximately 2m x 2.4m.

The site has a total of 10 pumps, providing the opportunity for 6 further upgrades at a later date.
